Children can Use Their Spiritual Gifts for God's Purposes Today

ENUMCLAW, Wash., July 1 /Christian Newswire/ -- Like adults, kids deal with the issue of acceptance every day, and by identifying and accepting their spiritual gifts as children, they will be more self confident and better equipped to use those gifts in the service of God when He requires them. Author and teacher Julie Huggins wrote and illustrated "Elizabeth's Gift," the delightful tale of a little girl's journey into understanding her special gift, after she realized most children weren't aware of their gifts until adulthood.

Elizabeth is a curious little girl with a zest for life, wearing hats while "hunting" (which is most of the time) and creating all sorts of fantastic adventures for herself that the other kids just don't understand. Her creativity creates messes for her mother and includes imaginative play--like tying a helium balloon to her kitten to make it fly. Her frazzled mother knows creativity is Elizabeth's spiritual gift from God, but the kids at school just think she's weird.

Her parents have told Elizabeth that she has a gift, and she daydreams about what it will be, and when it will arrive. Little does she know that her gift is the very special talent of creativity that God has already given her. It isn't until she meets an equally imaginative and creative boy at the park that she finally understands and fully values the gift she's been given.

Huggins believes that if she'd known, understood and accepted her own spiritual gifting as a child she would have been spared some of the mistakes made as a young adult. She believes children can be made aware of, and encouraged in, their own spiritual gifts at a young age.

The title character of the book, Elizabeth, is also the name of one of her daughters, and like the Elizabeth in the story, her Elizabeth also tied the kitten to a helium balloon to help it fly!
